Re:Work

My latest college project, entitled Re:Work, is about changing the face of sustainable fashion. There is a certain stigma attached to the concept, seen by the consumer as 'hippy clothes' and by the fashion industry as a hindrance. I want to show that good design does not have to be compromised for garments to be sustainably aware. So I have decided to create my own printed fabric, which I will then use to construct a garment, followed of course by a photoshoot. It's all a bit experimental, based around abstract florals, and these are the designs I am printing onto silk, using natural dyes, originally drawings which I edited on photoshop to make them suitable for screen printing...

Saltaire Living Advent Calender

My lovely manager Elizabeth Chambers at Shared Earth Leeds (check us out on facebook:  http://www.facebook.com/pages/Leeds-United-Kingdom/Shared-Earth/8981692642 ) lives in the beautiful little creative hub that is Saltaire near Bradford. This arty lot have a 'living advent calender' in the lead up to Christmas, and Liz got picked to create the window for the 4th December! Always my partner in creative crime, I was excited to see what she would come up with, and the girl did good! Her window showcased a fabulous lion, painted in acrylic on a black blind, highlighted with fairy lights on a wire frame. I asked Liz for a few words about her work: "I chose the lion because the sculptures are intrinsic to Saltaire, I wanted to create something quirky and humorous, so I invite the lion statue to stay! He is also a lot warmer than on the plinth"

You can check out the other lovely windows at http://www.saltaireinspired.org.uk/livingadventcalendar/ , I love the idea of the community all pulling together to create something wonderful at this festive time of year, and if anybody would like to buy me a house in Saltaire, I would be more than happy to accept!

Gash Beauty Pageant

This is Lisa's project, she is a 3rd year BA (Hons) Fine Art student at Leeds College of Art (and also modeled for me in the Alice in Noir Wonderland Shoot). She asked me to photograph her for her project, which she describes as "a patrtially performative look at the darker side of beauty pageants". Lisa and I work really well together, we bounce of each other creatively, and she takes direction really well. This is the first time i have shot in the colleges photography studios, using proper lighting. With the technical help of the technician, this is a sample of what we came out with:

Alice in Noir Wonderland

My most recent college project was entitled 'Alice in Noir Wonderland'. This was the biggest shoot I have done to date, and planned the entire thing, it took a whole day of shooting, with a model, photographer and myself on site at Roundhay Park in Leeds. I was in charge of every aspect of the planning, from styling to planning the scenes and finding the location. I created one of the costumes, reworking and dying the dress. The photographer and myself took the photographs between us, although I was mostly directing him and the model. I loved the shoot, and was so happy with the results, I know this is what I want to do with my life!

A Little Bit About Me

I live, eat, sleep, breathe and love editorial fashion photography. I'm currently in my 2nd year of BA (Hons) Printed Textiles and Surface Pattern Design at Leeds College of Art, and my work revolves around creating garments through reworking old fabrics and clothes. I love the idea of taking something old and forgotten, and making it beautiful again. I am incredibly passionate about what i do, feisty and determined. Photography is a huge part of who I am, iv grown up with it and aspire to work as a creative director, im constantly coming up with ideas for shoots, and my talents lie in directing and getting the best out of photographers and models. I have built up relationships with several other creatives, and am involved in collaborating with people across the creative sectors. So keep an eye on what I'm up to - and i hope you like what you see!
